Temat: Looking for feedback on whether 1080p .mkv possible with mac mini can it handle 1080p mkvs?
...mini as a dedicated plex media center. The one thing keeping me from making the purchase is that most of the content I view now is in full 1080p with 5.1 audio, downloaded as .mkvs. I'm wondering if the mac mini has enough horsepower to show these without losing frames or stuttering - that isn't acceptable to me or I'm sure most people. I currently use a Macbook pro hooked up to a 1080p TV, which works gloriously, but it packs a bit more power with 2.6ghz cores and 128MB Nvidea gfx. The 2.0ghz cores on the mini seem like they'd be ok, but the weaker 64mb intel graphics is a worry. Does anyone have experience with 1080p content on a newer mac mini? Please let me know if so, and how it performs.

Temat: problems with DivX and Nvidia
...you people want to help even dumb people like me, so I give it a shot.. I use SuSE 8.2 Prof on an Intel Pentium 1.9 GHz well first thing: since I couldn't play AVI videos or DVDs, neither with MPlayer or Kaboodle or xine, I tried to install the newest DivX Bundle.. which I did. but it still doesn't work, and when I try to play something with MPlayer it even gives me an error message: "MPlayer interrupted by signal 11 in module: key_events" second problem: I can't get the nvidea graphic drivers to work, I downloaded them and installed them, then activated the 3D button in the System Menue, but I still can't start 3D-Games, for example well, those are the most significant problems I have :-) I hope somebody can help me, I'm still pretty clueless about all Linux but I will figure out.. :-) hopefully thx for your help! l8er, Jan!

...Now with the rumor of the crappy hardware switch... I'm not buying the rumor of a CPU downgrade. When has anybody ever replaced a CPU with a slower one? The Atom makes sense in the AppleTV, but not the Mini. A dual-core Atom with Nvidea graphics that can play 1080p video at $229 is pretty exciting, especially if Plex will be able to take advantage of that GPU.

well, no, actually I thought you'd live in the Westbank, cause you're located at Betlehem PA (Palestinian Authority).. but anyway, so how did you get your graphic card to work... I have a NVidea type of card which is supposed to let you have a lot of trouble... and even though I installed the right drivers from the site mentioned at suse.com I still can't use 3D-applications... is that the same thing you had? or do you know anything I can do? cheers! Has anyone tested the leaked nvidea 5.xx drivers that enable texture compression? If so did they work on smp enabled quakeIII? Currently i am using the asus 379b1 windows 2000 beta drivers, and they work fine when r_smp is 0 but not 1. The same drivers are used for the gforce and the tnt2u and i use a tnt2u I would like to get r_smp going again under win2k as it was in nt4. Does the use of the
